About Lolelunga Private Reserve
The story of a reserve learning to be wild again
Lolelunga Private Reserve · Lunga River
Here moments are personal, and nature is infinite… a sanctuary crafted for youFrom Farmland to Wilderness
In Kaonde land in north-western Zambia, 30km north of the main gate of Kafue National Park, 30,000 hectares, the clear waters of the Lunga River were once shaped by farming and pressured by poaching. Today that land is being returned to the wild, one species and one season at a time.
As Zambia's first privately fenced game reserve, Lolelunga is learning in real time.
Our story
A Landscape Reclaiming Itself, with a Human Touch
Protection came first. With the reserve fenced and watched over by its own scouts, the land could recover and wildlife began finding its way back.
Cheetahs were reintroduced in 2024, and the first cubs were born here in 2025. In April 2026, with Mukuni Big Five, Zambia's Department of National Parks and Wildlife, and the Ministry of Tourism, Lolelunga marked Zambia's first rewilding of captive-bred lions, the first lions on this land in over 15 years.
This landscape is still actively healing, and you see that work up close. Our work with the Kasonsso and Kalassa Chiefdoms, supported by the IK Charitable Trust, is part of the same story.
