Bird Watching

From lilac-breasted rollers to fishing parties of storks, the Luangwa birdlife is a spectacle in its own right.

The lagoons and ox-bows below the ridge concentrate birdlife spectacularly, especially as the dry season tightens. Rollers, bee-eaters, kingfishers and fish eagles are daily company; the summer months bring the migrants and the valley's great breeding colonies.

Birding at Puku Ridge folds into any activity — drive, walk or an hour in the hide — with guides who know the calls before the binoculars come up.
